Aji Triyed
About this project
In Moroccan Arabic (Darija), Aji Triyed means "come and do sport". It is an invitation to everyone to join in, with room for different abilities and needs.
It started in December 2022 as a sports training in Tetouan, set up by Cultined together with Volunteer in Morocco. Since July 2023 it has been a weekly activity, with basketball, volleyball, kickboxing, tennis and hikes, among others.
From 28 April to 15 May 2024 the initiative gained an international dimension, with a team of 21 young people aged 18 to 30 in Martil. The team worked with Volunteer in Morocco and the Tetouan Blind Sport Association (TEBSA).
During Aji Triyed, young people with an intellectual disability took part in an international volunteering team of Cultined for the first time, supported by the Al-Awael day centre. A blind participant also took part, with a personal support person. In a workshop on moving without sight, the other participants experienced some of the challenges that people with a visual impairment can face.
The group helped shape the programme, with sports sessions, bike tours on their own bicycles and workshops on healthy and vegan food.
"Patience, discipline, responsibility for myself. I see things differently now," said one participant afterwards.
We are adding the full story of this project, with photos and what the participants wrote.
